Livingston Soccer Club Announces
Let The Games Begin!
It's coming. I can feel it. I can close my eyes and see it. Livingston Soccer Club's Fall 2010 in-town season is quickly approaching, and on behalf of our Board of Trustees, I look forward to enjoying our exceptional children as they run, kick and worry that that the ice cream truck will leave before their game ends.
Our goal is for children of all ability-levels to feel good about themselves, get some exercise, make friends, and learn a thing or two about soccer. We measure the success of the program by how many children return year after year.
Team rosters and schedules will be distributed shortly.
Our 2010 Season: We will play 8 games starting on Sunday September 19. (Followed by Saturday September 25, Sunday September 26, Saturday October 2, Saturday October 9, Sunday Oct 10, Saturday October 16, and Saturday October 23. First and Second graders will have a 9th game on Saturday October 30. We are also considering one mid-week game under the lights for each 7/9 grade team.
Carpini Cup (3rd-12th Grade Only) Every team participates! - We cap off the season with a travel-style tournament. Each team plays two games on Day One (Oct. 30) of the tournament. Semi-finals and finals will be on Day Two (Oct 31).
What Equipment We Provide: Each child will get a full uniform (shirt, shorts, and socks) to keep. You must supply shin guards, which are mandatory. We strongly suggest getting your child soccer cleats (no metal spikes) - and a soccer ball for practice. (Size 3 for 1st graders, Size 4 for 2nd through 6th graders, and Size 5 for 7th through 12th graders).
Jewelry? For safety reasons, jewelry of all types is not allowed to be worn. Please be mindful that NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND is to be worn on the field. This includes earrings, necklaces, bracelets, friendship bracelets, rope bracelets, soft bracelets, metal bracelets, nose rings, or tongue piercings. Medical bracelets are the only exception. Sweatbands ARE allowed, but they are not to be used to cover up any, you guessed it, bracelets.
What We Expect of Parents: Cheer on your child, - cheer on your team, - cheer on the other team - hey - cheer on the referee! Keep it positive at all times. The Livingston Soccer Club takes SAGE (Set A Good Example) very seriously (see below). Your behavior on the sidelines is seen and heard by everyone - kids, parents, referees - so remember the good of the game by enjoying the show!
Bring your comfy chair, - but please stay on the parents' side of the field behind the set-back line. Spectators are not allowed on the players' side of the field or behind the end-lines and the back of the nets.
It's never OK to challenge the referee. We use Livingston children - your neighbors -- as referees (as young as 6th grade) They all work really hard to do a good job. We want them to show up again next year, too.
PLAYING TIME/POSITIONS
Playing Time for 1st and 2nd Grades:
· We use a rotation system for all First and Second Graders.
· This system equalizes playing time among all of the children. It also assures that each child has a chance to learn ALL of the positions on the field by guaranteeing playing time in "offensive" as well as "defensive" positions.
· In addition, we will not keep "standings" for First or Second Graders.
Playing Time for 3rd-12th Grades:
· Every child must play at least one-half of each game (but it need not be continuous play).
· No child may play more than one-quarter longer than any other child. If one child plays the entire game, then no child may play less than three-quarters of the game.
· Conversely, if one child plays one-half of a game, then no one else may play more than three-quarters of that game.
Positions (3rd - 6th Grade ONLY): All players must play at least one-quarter of each game in a position other than Defender (Fullback, Stopper, Sweeper) or Goalkeeper.
SAGE -- Set A Good Example: The Board of Trustees is very serious about providing our children with the opportunity for equality of playing time and positioning. We have an Enforcement Committee to provide a forum for reports of any failure to adhere to these rules. Coaches who violate the rules will not be permitted to coach a team next year. Furthermore, any abusive or threatening behavior or remarks by players, parents, or coaches will subject the individual to possible termination of membership in the Livingston Soccer Club. Any parent, or coach, who feels that a player is being treated unfairly, and has not been able to resolve the matter with the child's coach, is urged to contact a member of the Enforcement Committee. The committee is comprised of the following individuals:
· Steve Ferman, Head of Enforcement, stevef@compunite.com
· Steve Delman, coachlobos@aol.com
· Steve Brooks, referee@lsclub.com
Please help us make this a positive experience for ALL of the young soccer players. Be positive, supportive and encouraging. Remember, the goal is FUN!
